The Senator will reportedly not seek a full term in 2010.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Senator Roland Burris of Illinois is not expected to seek a full term in 2010. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Burris has decided to not run for a full Senate term due to issues in changing the public’s view of him after his controversial appointment.
The 71-year-old Senator was appointed by now impeached Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who was accused of attempting to sell the vacant seat of President Barack Obama following the presidential election. Upon his appointment several quickly called for his resignation.
As noted by the AP, many view Burris’ decision as a positive for Democrats in regards to holding on to the seat in the Senate, because Republicans had reportedly deemed him a possible easy defeat due to his connection to Blagojevich.
