A bankruptcy lawyer is seeking control of game show prize money won by an educator who promised it to charity.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A bankruptcy attorney is seeking control of the money won by an educator on a television game show. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the attorney is demanding the $1 million in prize money won by Georgia Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox on the Fox game show “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader.”
As noted by the AP, Cox and her husband filed for bankruptcy last November stating they were $3.5 million in debt, which prompted the demand for the prize money by the bankruptcy lawyer. However, Cox announced on the program that she was giving the prize money to charity. Fox has reportedly stated that they will not release the prize money until a determination is made regarding who the money belongs to, which may have to be handled in court.
