The fallen sports star gets a chance at a comeback.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Michael Vick has been signed to a new team following his release from prison. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the football player has been signed to the Philadelphia Eagles in a one-year contract, with the option to sign for another year.
Vick previously served 18 months out of the 23-month prison term he was sentenced to after being convicted of conspiracy and operating a dog fighting ring. Animal rights group PETA and others have expressed disappointment in the signing due to the former Atlanta Falcons star’s conviction.
PETA spokesman Dan Shannon is quoted by the AP as stating of the matter, “PETA and millions of decent football fans around the world are disappointed that the Eagles decided to sign a guy who hung dogs from trees. He electrocuted them with jumper cables and held them under water… You have to wonder what sort of message this sends to young fans who care about animals and don’t want them to be harmed.”
