The former Democratic Party Chairman suggests that a health care overhaul would be meaningless without the inclusion of a public option.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Howard Dean, former Vermont Governor and Democratic Party Chairman, expressed his views recently on the importance of a public option in health care reform. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Dean proposed Monday that such a plan would not have much significance without the government playing a role.
Dean is quoted by the AP as stating of the matter on NBC’s “Today” show, “You can’t really do health reform without it.” Dean further labeled the role of the government as “the entirety of health care reform. It isn’t the entirety of insurance reform … We shouldn’t spend $60 billion a year subsidizing the insurance industry.”
