A new study suggests the practice may help alleviate chronic back pain.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A new study proposes that individuals who suffer with chronic back pain may get relief with yoga. As reported by Reuters, researchers found after examining a group of chronic back pain sufferers chosen to take Iyengar style yoga classes for six months, that the participants saw improvements in mobility and pain, and also experienced fewer symptoms of depression.
Dr. Kimberly Williams, of Morgantown based West Virginia University, who lead the study, is quoted in the report as stating of the findings, “People have to remember that this was a therapeutic Iyengar class,” therefore all forms of yoga may not produce the same results for those who suffer with back pain.
More information about the study may be found in the September publication of the Spine journal.
