Some experts suggest that dealing with the obesity epidemic should be a key aspect of health care reform.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Some health experts are calling on policy makers to address the growing problem with obesity in legislation for reforming the health care system. As reported by HealthDay News, two former U.S. Surgeon Generals have teamed with a group of health care organizations to help bring awareness to the issue.
Former Surgeon General Dr. Richard Carmona, is quoted in the report as stating of the issue, “At this critical juncture where we’re dealing with health-care transformation, we want to make sure that the federal government and our elected leaders recognize the importance of including approaches to obesity that are evidence-based and proven within their legislative strategy.”
As noted by HealthDay News, CDC statistics suggest that two-thirds of the nation’s population is overweight and obese.
