Amid the recent controversy regarding the district’s decision not show Obama’s education speech, Arlington ISD cancels planned trip to hear former president Bush.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Arlington Independent School District Superintendent, Jerry McCullough, has announced a cancellation of a planned trip for students to hear a speech by former president George W. Bush. As reported by CBS 11 News, the decision was made following controversy surrounding the district’s decision not to air a live telecast of President Barack Obama’s speech on education, which led many to question why Bush’s speech was deemed acceptable and the president’s was not.
As noted by the AP, McCullough expressed concerns that the focus on the events has taken focus off of educating the district’s students. Prior to the announcement of the trip cancellation, he apologized for the decision not air Obama’s speech.
