The long-running soap opera aired its final episode Friday.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Television’s longest running soap opera “Guiding Light” has been taken off the air after 72 years. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Emmy award-winning program aired its final episode Friday, with many of the show’s characters being brought together at a park picnic, and its most celebrated couple, reva and Josh, played by Kim Zimmer and Robert Newman, declaring their undying love for one another.
As noted by the AP, “Guiding Light” began as a radio program in 1937 and became a televised production in 1952. Throughout its history, it has helped launch the careers of several stars who moved on from the show to become household names including Kevin Bacon and Hayden Panettiere.
The show ended its long-time run due to lagging ratings. Its CBS slot will reportedly be filled by the reincarnated game show, “Let’s Make a Deal.”
