A North Texas school district places a ban on one of the most popular current fashion trends.
Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – A North Texas school district is putting an end to student participation in one of the latest fashion trends while at school. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, the Mesquite Independent School District has placed a ban on skinny jeans, which administrators suggest is disruptive of student learning.
Laura Jobe, a spokesperson for the district, is quoted in the report as stating of the district’s dress code, “We don’t allow striped shirts or check shirts… There are certain types of clothes that are not acceptable dress style.”
Skinny jeans, or jean pants that mimic the tightness of leggings have become a popular wardrobe piece for people of all ages. Cindy Pope, the mother of a middle school student recently sent home from school due to the no skinny jeans ban, is quoted by the Dallas Morning News as stating of the action taken toward her son, “We’re going to home schooling… He can learn more without the distraction of what to wear.”
