A recent review of technological advancements over the last ten years illustrates its significant impact on society.
U.S. (WiredPRNews.com) – A recent review of advancements in social media and related technologies reveals the significant impact they’ve had on the everyday lives of individuals over the last decade. As reported by the Yahoo! Decade in Review blog, the technological advancements have created a purported media revolution.
Paul Levinson, Fordham University professor and author of “New New Media,” is quoted in the report as stating of the change, “What has happened between the beginning of the 21st century and now I think is the most profound part of the new media revolution… In particular, what makes these newer media so important is that it turns the consumers into producers.”
As noted in the report, among the biggest changes are the newfound ability of individuals to produce and distribute content through resources like Facebook and YouTube in a manner previously done primarily by corporations and medium to large companies.
Ken Hudson, a Toronto based digital media consultant, is further quoted as stating on the topic, “In previous times, no matter what, someone was deciding what you were going to hear and see and watch and listen to… But now there are also individuals that produce content. And so if the story is worth telling or if it’s worth hearing, it’s going to be heard.”
