Isle de Jean Charles, La (WiredPRNews.com) – Residents of a tiny island in Louisiana are holding steadfast to their decision to remain in the village despite safety concerns. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), public officials and others are urging the residents of the Indian village of Isle de Jean Charles to move due to the threat of hurricanes and floods, which are reportedly causing it to cave it.
Edison Dardar, a village resident is quoted by the AP as stating in regards to his insistence on staying on the island, despite the pleas from officials for him and others to move to a safer area nearby like Bourg, “What am I going to do there? Wake up and look at the road?… No, not me. I’m not moving. This island is more beautiful than ever. This island is a gold mine for me.”
