Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – The American Red Cross has reportedly pledged an initial $200,000 to assist those affected by the recent devastation in Haiti, as efforts get under way to help the millions of people in need of aid. The organization recently released information on their site pertaining to providing assistance to the communities in Haiti affected by the earthquake that has possibly left thousands of people dead or trapped underneath the destruction.
Tracy Reines, director of international disaster response for the American Red Cross, is quoted in a press release on the organization’s site as stating, “Initial reports indicate widespread damage in Port au Prince, with continuing aftershocks… As with most earthquakes, we expect to see immediate needs for food, water, temporary shelter, medical services and emotional support.”
