Sandra Bullock and Mo’Nique were among the top winners at Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony.
Los Angeles (WiredPRNews.com) – First time winners took home top honors at Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Sandra Bullock and Jeff Bridges won in the categories of best actress and best actor, while Mo’Nique and Christoph Waltz won supporting actress and actor prizes.
Bullock is quoted by the AP as stating of her Oscar win, “Did I really earn this or did I just wear you all down?” Bullock won for her role in Blind Side.”
Mo’Nique, who won for her role in “Precious” is quoted as stating during her acceptance speech, “I would like to thank the academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics.” The actress further stated of the first African American woman to win an Academy Award Hattie McDaniel, who took home the supporting actress prize for “Gone With the Wind” in 1939, “I want to thank Miss Hattie McDaniel for enduring all that she had to so that I would not have to.”
Other big wins include six for “The Hurt Locker,” which won best picture, and a history making best director nod for Kathryn Bigelow, the first female to ever win in the category.
