A crew member is reportedly missing following a US Navy plane crash on Wednesday.
Manama (WiredPRNews.com) – A US Navy radar aircraft crashed into the Arabian Sea on Wednesday. As reported by AFP, three crew members of the plane have been rescued, while one remains missing following the crash.
The Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet is quoted by AFP as releasing the statement that the E-2C Hawkeye aircraft “was returning from conducting operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom” when it malfunctioned” and “rescue efforts for the fourth crew member are currently underway.”
The US Navy is further quoted in the report as stating that the E-2C Haweye provides “all-weather airborne early warnings, battle management and command and control functions” and is used also in “ground surveillance, strike coordination and communications relay.” It is reportedly estimated to cost approximately $80 million.
