A North Texas father has won his fight to obtain health coverage for his newborn son.
Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – A North Texas father has won his fight against a health insurance provider to obtain coverage for his newborn son. As reported by Fox 4 News, insurance provider Blue Cross Blue Shield granted Doug Tracy coverage for his son Houston Tracy, who needed heart surgery immediately after his birth, from March 15 to March 26. They reportedly initially denied benefits for the newborn, citing he had a pre-existing condition.
Tracy is quoted in the report as stating of the matter in an interview prior, “I’m not backing down from this fight because I don’t understand how something can be pre-existing when he didn’t exist yet. He was still in the womb and there was no way to detect that.” He is further quoted as stating of the insurance company’s recent decision, “I think that they had to step up and do the right thing. And, I feel blessed that they did.”
