Detroit (Mesothelioma Cancer News) – A demolition blitz in Detroit has been put on hold due to asbestos concerns. As reported by The Detroit News, the $20 million demolition project, funded by the federal government, was stopped after officials discovered necessary certification showing asbestos inspection had been conducted had yet to be filed with the state Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
Spokesman Robert McCann is quoted in the report as stating of plans for completion of the demolition project, “We’re more than willing to work with them to get this project moving forward, but it’s going to depend on how quickly they get the certification done… If you start hitting (houses) with a wrecking ball, that material will spray into the air. We just want to make sure the work is done safely.”
