Some law enforcement agencies are reportedly using social networking sites like Facebook to catch criminals.
New York (WiredPRNews.com) – Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are increasingly becoming a more popular medium for law enforcement agencies to use for catching criminals. As reported by CNN Money.com, some are tapping into the sites to monitor activity of those suspected of tax evasion and other crimes.
David Seltzer, a criminal and cyber crime defense lawyer, is quoted in the report as stating of the issue, “People don’t think [authorities] are going to go that far, but little do they know, they are going this far.”
A spokeswoman for the Department of Justice is further quoted in the report as stating of the use of public information on these sites, “We will continue to use publicly available information individuals post online about their illegal activities or false statements to law enforcement officials in our investigations.”
