Some have expressed concerns over global privacy issues with social networking sites such as Facebook.
Los Angeles (WiredPRNew.com) – The rapid growth of Facebook worldwide has raised privacy concerns regarding social networking online. As reported by Reuters, a teleconference was recently held by data protection authorities from around the globe to discuss means of privacy protection amid widespread Internet freedom.
Viviane Reding, European commissioner for media and the information society, is quoted by Reuters as stating of the issue in a past speech, “We cannot expect citizens to trust Europe if we are not serious in defending the right to privacy… Facebook, MySpace or Twitter have become extremely popular, particularly among young people… However, children are not always able to assess all risks associated with exposing personal data.”
As noted in the report, many are keeping a close watch on privacy issues of these types of sites.
