A Denton County teen saved her younger brother with CPR after he began choking last week.
Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – A teenager in Denton County reportedly saved her younger brother’s life last week using CPR training she learned in class. As reported by CBS 11 News, Cayaana Kniper was driving with her seven year-old brother Avery and two other siblings when Avery began choking.
Cayaana is quoted in the report as stating of the incident, “All of a sudden he started choking… I turned around and was like ‘are you ok?’, and he didn’t say anything, so I kept on driving.” Avery is further quoted as stating, “When you’re choking you can’t talk, so I wouldn’t’ be able to do anything… I couldn’t breath. She gave me the Heimlich remover.”
Cayaana reportedly used what she learned about the Heimlich maneuver in a CPR class in high school. She is quoted in the report as stating, “I can’t stress enough how important it is to pay attention in that kind of class… Because it really can make a difference.”
