A diagnosis of colon cancer prompted Scott Lynn to pen a story about his lifelong obsession.
Sports director for KEX radio in Portland, Oregon Scott Lynn, wrote a book about a high school basketball championship team he had been intrigued by since he was a teenager during his battle with colon cancer. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the diagnosis in 2008 help motivate Lynn to complete his work Thornridge: The Perfect Season in Black and White, about the Thornridge High School 1971-72 Illinois state championship team.
Lynn is quoted in the report as stating of writing his book while receiving treatment for colon cancer, “It was tough, but it really gave me a great thing to focus on, instead of what was happening to me… All the other people sit in that room, just dealing with it the best they can. Some read, some sleep, some just sit. It is really depressing and sad. But I had a goal. I had to get my book done.”
