Detroit, Michigan – McDonald’s Corp is recalling millions of drinking cups with a “Shrek” theme due to a cadmium scare. As reported by Reuters, the recall follows warnings to consumers in the United States and Canada about cadmium found on the glassware. Cadmium is a toxic metal linked to potentially severe health complications with long term exposure. Twelve million glasses in the United States and an estimated minimum of 1.3 million glasses in Canada are included in the recall.
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission spokesman Scott Wolfson, is quoted in the report as stating of the issue in an email, “A very small amount of cadmium can come to the surface of the glass, and in order to be as protective as possible of children, CPSC and McDonald’s worked together on this recall.”
