Seoul – South Korea president Lee Myung-Bak has recently joined Twitter. As reported by AFP, the president’s office set up the Twitter account following a setback in the polls; however, the office did not correlate the move with the issue. Previous plans to use the social networking site had reportedly been delayed due to privacy protection concerns; however, the president’s office is stated to have implemented measures to ward off online attacks.
As noted in the report, the feed #BluehouseKorea, launched on Monday, has garnered over 3,000 followers. Some have linked the use of Twitter to a higher than expected turnout of young voters, and support for the opposition.
As further noted by AFP, a spokesperson for the president reportedly stated the use of Twitter is expected to assist in improving communication with users online.
