U.S. – The Coast Guard is calling for BP to increase efforts to stop the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. As reported the Associated Press (AP), the Coast Guard sent a letter to the chief operating officer of the British oil giant, Doug Suttles, urging the company to speed up efforts for containing the spill.
Coast Guard Rear Adm. James A. Watson is quoted by the AP as stating in the letter, “BP must identify in the next 48 hours additional leak containment capacity that could be operationalized and expedited to avoid the continued discharge of oil … Recognizing the complexity of this challenge, every effort must be expended to speed up the process.”
The company is reportedly expected to give their response to the letter by Sunday.
