Washington – Republican lawmaker Joe Barton issued an apology for his apology to BP CEO Tony Hayward on Thursday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Barton apologized for his remarks following fallout from his referring to an agreement reached between the White House and BP Wednesday that the company would establish a $20 billion fund for victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, as a “shakedown.”
Barton is quoted by the AP as releasing the written statement, “”I apologize for using the term ‘shakedown’ with regard to yesterday’s actions at the White House this morning, and I retract my apology to BP… I regret the impact that my statement this morning implied that BP should not pay for the consequences of their decisions and actions in this incident.”
