U.S. – New research suggests that children and young adults can develop attention span related problems if too much time is spent in front of a television or computer screen. As reported by HealthDay News, the study found excessive time spent can double the chances of having attention problems for both of these groups.
A panel of participants that spent time at a screen for two hours a day was compared to those who watched more, ranging from ages two and up. Researcher Edward Swing, a graduate student at Iowa State University, is quoted in the report as stating of the findings, “Those who exceeded the AAP recommendation were about 1.6 times to 2.2 times more likely to have greater than average attention problems.”
More information about the study may be available in the July issue of Pediatrics.
