Washington – Congressional Democrats reportedly now have enough votes in place to stop a Republican filibuster that would prevent the restoration of jobless benefits to over 2.5 million people. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Senate is set to vote on a measure Tuesday that would grant an extension of unemployment benefits previously blocked by Republicans due to assertions about excessive spending.
President Barack Obama is quoted by the AP as stating of the issue on Monday, “The same people who didn’t have any problem spending hundreds of billions of dollars on tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans are now saying we shouldn’t offer relief to middle-class Americans.”
As noted in the report, a purported 14.6 million people in the country are unemployed.
