(Lahaina, Hawaii) Legendary Emmy and Tony winner MOS DEF performed live in concert at The Maui Celebrity Series in Lahaina.
It was the first visit to Maui by the hip hop star, who performed a full concert to a packed audience on Front Street in Lahaina. The series, created last year by Brian Evans, is produced by Evans, Mark Biltz, and Arman Zajic.
“Mos Def was undoubtedly one of the coolest acts to perform a full concert on this island in a very long time,” says Zajic.
The series began with an appearance by William Shatner, followed by comedian Paul Rodriguez, Roseanne Barr, Tom Arnold, Tom Green, David Spade, and Nick Swardson.
“The show was amazing,” says Zajic. “The crowd felt the vibe the entire night and were thrilled beyond belief.”
Mos Def, who was the seventh concert the series has presented, is aimed at developing tourism for the west side of Maui. The Governor of Hawaii recently issued Commendations to all of the show producers, and Shatner, for helping to bring attention to the “aloha state” during the recent economic difficulties.
Comedian Tom Arnold, who once executive produced the smash television hit “Roseanne,” has just signed on to produce “The Maui Project,” a reality TV show based on the creation of the series, and what it takes to put together headline talent on the island…and in a venue with just 680 seats.
“The intimate venue is one of the great treats of the series,” says Zajic.
