JellyFishMoFo, which is the brainchild of an ambitious college student who got tired of searching for a job in this recession, focuses on hilarious videos, and in August 2010, the new entertainment company is revealing to internet audiences just what it’s all about.
Nahshon Rison had 2 problems; he wanted to work for an amazing entertainment company, and he didn’t have a lot of experience. Of course in the time of a recession the chances of getting a job, even unpaid internships which is all he applied for, are very slim. With employers still being barraged by quality employees he had only one option left, start his own amazing entertainment company.
With this goal in mind he had an idea to both get him valuable experience and give people good entertainment, JellyFishMoFo Productions. The name alone provokes further curiosity and the story behind it is as out of the ordinary as the company name. It is neither the creation of a dried-up businessperson, nor of an inexperienced rich kid with cash to blow. The company is, in fact, the result of a savvy college student with a passion, who reinvested his own scholarship money into an entertainment company that focuses on his skills and interests. Since the recession only resulted in him and other people he knew not being able to find a job, he decided to cheer everybody up and start a comedy website.
This is both an interesting and inspiring development not only because it shows just how much students in this new millennial generation can be extremely resourceful, but also because it is the first African America owned internet comedy website.
The first goal is to encourage laughter and innovation in the form of internet comedy. While JellyFishMoFo aims to completely change the way you think about humor on the internet, it has other goals in mind as well. One of those goals is to redesign the role of internet advertising. The company, rising into stardom out of a major recession, is determined to be successful, and its fresh perspectives on business and marketing, combined with its unique take on internet comedy, seem to be pushing it toward becoming a sensation.
This leads us to the company’s current viral marketing campaign; the button. The current line of videos seeks to poke fun at famous infomercials and sells a button with the JellyFishMoFo logo on it showcasing its “ridiculously amazing abilities.” The videos are highly amusing, and if you like the short ones, there is actually a full infomercial at the current splash page on JellyFishMoFo.com.
Think the button is ridiculous? Even the first sets of promo videos for the website were jokes in and of themselves (boldly claiming the website would launch in July, when clearly the site has not). The new button videos even poke fun at these instances of audience mind boggling and release date confusion.
The official website, JellyFishMoFo.com (founded in January 2010), as well as the company’s YouTube page, feature a number of hilarious video clips that serve as brief previews for what is to come from this no-holds-barred company. With hilarious videos including “Best Show Ever,” and “The Most Amazing Show Ever” (which is even better than the best show ever, apparently), viewers can catch a glimpse of the direction in which it intends to take internet comedy.
It hopes its hilarious video clips featured on the company’s first business unit, appropriately titled JellyFishMoFo.com, will take the world by storm, as its sketch comedy series’ and viral videos change the way people think about funny. So, in August 2010, when “the Internet” brings you hilarious videos unlike any you’ve seen before, be on the lookout for the entertainment company behind the videos, and don’t be surprised if JellyFishMoFo becomes a household name.
