U.S. – What has been deemed an open source competitor of Facebook is set to soon launch. As reported by PC Magazine, Diaspora is set to launch September 15 as announced by its creators in a blog post last week. The software will reportedly provide a distributed, or decentralized social networking service.
Site creators Daniel Grippi, Maxwell Salzberg, Raphael Sofaer, and Ilya Zhitomirskiy are quoted in the report as stating of the service in a previous post from April, “Once it has been set up, the seed will aggregate all of your information: your Facebook profile, tweets, anything.”
The creators are further quoted as stating that Dispora is a “distributed network, where totally separate computers connect to each other directly, will let us connect without surrendering our privacy.”
