New York – Discount retail giant Wal-Mart is introducing its first cell phone plan under the Wal-Mart brand. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced the plans Monday to use its own branding for the Wal-Mart Family Mobile service, which will run on the T-Mobile USA network.
Greg Hall, vice president of merchandising at Wal-Mart U.S., is quoted by the AP as stating of the decision to offer the Family Mobile plan, “What we saw was an opening in the marketplace for really bringing family savings and a family plan and T-Mobile was a great partner there.”
As noted in the report, the company will begin offering the postpaid service next week in Wal-Mart stores throughout the country.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is based in Bentonville, Arkansas.
