New York – Facebook is attributing its latest privacy breach to an issue with popular applications. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the social networking powerhouse recently stated that apps used on the site transmitted user information to companies that track information and advertise online.
Mike Vernal, a Facebook engineer, is quoted by the AP as stating of the issue in a blog post on Monday, “In most cases, developers did not intend to pass this information, but did so because of the technical details of how browsers work.”
Facebook is further quoted as releasing a statement asserting that there is “no evidence that any personal information was misused or even collected as a result of this issue,” and the company is working on correcting the problem.
