Nashville, Tennessee – Country music sensation Taylor Swift has been named BMI songwriter of the year. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Swift received the honor Tuesday night during a BMI Awards ceremony, and at 20 is the youngest recipient of the award.
Swift, whose latest album “Speak Now” is now available in stores nationwide, was honored for songwriting credits for her hits such as “White Horse” and “You Belong to Me.”
As noted in the report, legendary producer and songwriter Billy Sherrill was also honored at the awards as a BMI icon. Sherrill, 74, is quoted by the AP as stating of being credited with opening doors in country music with his work, “I don’t think I changed anything… I think I jumped on the bandwagon.”
