Englewood, NJ (WiredPRNews.com) Here’s a great concept – take a once-in-a-lifetime vacation this summer – that also benefits charity.
Arts Horizons, an Englewood, New Jersey organization, is about to christen a unique cruise concept – the fundraising cruise. This 32-year old not-for-profit organization, which provides arts programming to children in public schools, community centers and hospitals in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan region, is hosting an “Art Cruise.”
From August 20 – 27th, a select group of art lovers will tour the Mediterranean aboard Silversea’s newest luxury cruise liner “Silver Spirit,” with celebrated fine artist Suzanne LaFleur, who will act as resident artist, host and private museum guide.
The ship is an all-suite luxury liner that combines the joy of cruising with the fine art of dining on the high seas. With every passage that’s booked aboard the Silver Spirit, Arts Horizons receives a percentage to support its children’s arts programs.
“Hosting an Art-at-Sea Fundraiser is a great way to break the monotony of ‘donor burnout,’ and provide something unique and memorable to our benefactors,” said Elizabeth Halverstam, Executive Director of Arts Horizons. “We believe that our guests will be quite generous when they know that they are helping to keep the arts alive in our public schools.”
Visual artist Suzanne LaFleur, the resident artist during the Arts Horizons Art Cruise, is best known for her strong use of spiraling strokes of color on large, oversized canvases. Originally from Southampton, NY, LaFleur began her formal art training at the Art Students League in Manhattan, and studied with Burton Silverman and Ephraim Rubenstein. She has had exhibits around the world, including the Coleman Burke Gallery in Chelsea, NY in 2010, and the Illusion Gallery in Kuwait in 2006.
During the cruise, LaFleur will host a private party for Arts Horizons’ guests, lead a private museum tour through one of Europe’s most famous museums, and exhibit some of her recent works aboard ship. A percentage of all of LaFleur’s art sales during the cruise will also contribute to Arts Horizons fundraising efforts. In addition, through Arts Horizons partners in the venture, Alice Travel and Cruise Gourmet, passengers will receive special perks such as $1,000 worth of on-board spending credit and a reduced business class airfare upgrade.
