Don’t get caught out by flash floods, warns Slingsby

07/10/2012 (press release: OnlinePR) // Steve Wright

One of the UK’s top industrial and commercial equipment suppliers has warned businesses to take all necessary precautions to ensure they do not get caught out by the flash floods which have swept Britain in recent weeks.

Leeds-based workplace products specialist Singsby has seen sales of flood protection equipment, such as sandbags, increase significantly in recent days as a result of the unseasonable weather. And with forecasters predicting further spells of heavy rain over the coming days, the firm has urged companies to get ready.

The Environment Agency said on Tuesday that persistent rain would continue to affect eastern England and south east Scotland into the middle of the week. Watercourses and stretches of land across the UK have already been affected by heavy rain, causing rivers to burst their banks and areas to become waterlogged.

James McNeil at Slingsby, said: “As of Tuesday afternoon there were eight flood warnings in place, telling people to take immediate action. A further 27 flood alerts warned of possible flooding.

“The weather has taken everyone by surprise and flood waters have caused devastation in parts of the UK, wrecking homes and business premises alike. Unsurprisingly we have seen significant demand for our flood protection measures such as filled sandbags and flood barriers, and we’re just calling on all companies to stay on top of the situation and make sure their premises, and of course their staff, stay safe.”

Slingsby’s range of flood protection products include sandbags which are available either filled or unfilled. Flood barrier protection systems, which take just two minutes to install and will provide a waterproof seal to stop flood waters breaching a property, are available in a variety of sizes.
