A Coventry couple will return to the country where they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary after winning a luxury holiday in Egypt.
Retired quality manager Roger Dax, aged 69, and his wife Janet, 68, from Binley, scooped the seven nights all-inclusive break in Sharm El Sheikh courtesy of The Midcounties Co-op Travel and Red Sea Holidays, the Egyptian holiday specialist.
Roger entered a free prize draw at Midcounties Co-op Travel’s newly acquired branch in Bull Yard, Coventry, and the lucky couple will take up the prize at the five star Grand Hotel in November.
Red Sea Holidays’ Grand Hotel is in the Ras Um Sid/Hadaba area of Sharm El Sheikh, around 30km from the airport. The hotel is set in landscaped gardens overlooking a private beach with jetty access to the sea and the coral reefs. It is ten minutes from both Naama Bay, with its sandy beaches, and the Old Market area.
“I’ve never won anything like this before. I could not believe it,” said Roger.
“We holidayed in Egypt 23 years ago when we stayed in Cairo and also cruised down the Nile for our silver wedding anniversary. We have never been to the Red Sea side and we’re really looking forward to staying at the Sharm El Sheikh resort.”
The well-travelled couple have been booking their holidays at the same Coventry travel branch since that first trip to Egypt. The branch was formerly owned by another co-operative society, Co-operative Group.
Roger visited it again when it changed hands and he signed up to become a member of The Midcounties Co-operative. He was encouraged to put his name down for the draw but told staff he would never win.
Lyndsey Prestleton, Manager of the Coventry branch said: “We’re delighted that it was one of our customers whose name was picked out for this great prize. We’re sure Roger and Janet will enjoy their holiday and we look forward to hearing all about it.”
The draw was run in seven branches which The Midcounties Co-op Travel acquired as part of its aim to become one of the best independent travel retailers in the country. The shops were being closed following a network review after the merger of Thomas Cook, Co-operative Group and Midlands Co-operative.
