CropFax helped take the guesswork out of seed selection in agriculture when it started compiling data into reports that showed which seeds would yield the most crops and the most profit for farmers in specific areas.
The reports showed farmers the top-20 hybrid seeds for specific areas; so farmers can select the seeds that had the best results in their region. Seed selection is an important and difficult part of farming.
Factors that go into the compilation of the report include:
• Growing degree days
• Last spring and first fall freeze dates
• Precipitation probability
• Soil temperature
• Independent yield comparisons
• Stand-ability and disease resistance
• Harvest moisture
CropFax, during seed selection research, has completed more than 23 million field comparisons and all seed performance data is compiled in a multi-year comparison.
the multi-year comparison considers at least three years of weather conditions and the resulting performance of the seed under those conditions. CropFax also combined historical and outside data from up to 20 years ago to their own data to create more accurate predictions. This data helps CropFax to help farmers with their seed selection options.
CropFax Team members are one or two generations removed from the farm and believe that improving farm profitability – especially for the small and medium sized growers – is critical to strengthening the agricultural economy.
