The Vikingland Curling Club in Alexandria, Minnesota is hosting Learn to Curl Open House Events and the 2 + 2 Halloween Bonspiel this month at the Runestone Community Center. The strategic sport is a fun winter activity for people of all ages and ability levels to enjoy.
The Learn to Curl sessions will be held on October 10th & 17th from 7-9 p.m. The event is open to the public and costs $5. No equipment is necessary to participate, and curlers should wear loose fitting clothing and tennis shoes. These introduction sessions are ideal for those who have never tried the sport before, but are curious to learn the basics. All are welcome! Curling is a “lifetime” sport for people of all ages and abilities. We can also accommodate wheelchair curlers and those who may not be as flexible as they once were with “stick” curling. We love for kids to try curling! Because it takes a certain amount of strength to slide the 42 pound granite stones down the ice, kids about 9 years and up are generally able to participate.
On October 27, the curling club is holding the 2 + 2 Halloween Bonspiel. Teams of four and individuals are able to sign up for the event. The tournament is designed to introduce new curlers to the sport, so don’t worry about your current skill level. In fact, each team is encouraged to have 2 to 3 new or novice curlers and 1 or two ringers.
The Halloween event even includes a costume contest, and there will be best costume prizes available. The entry deadline is October 19th for the tournament. The entry fee is $20/person or $80/team.
