M2M Gateway Helps Solve Energy Concerns

01/29/2013 (press release: systech) // San Diego, CA, USA // Cheri Houchin

San Diego, CA – January 28, 2013 – Energy consumers at businesses and home are now able to automatically reduce energy consumption and save costs using Systech smart energy gateways and software on display at the Distributech smart grid conference and exposition to be held this week in San Diego.

At this event, energy producers and distributors will be able to learn more about Demand Response solutions which can reduce energy demand during occasional and temporary peak demand periods. Demand response programs offer incentives to businesses and homes that participate by temporarily reducing their electricity use when demand outpaces supply. According to one report, it is estimated that a 5% lowering of demand would have resulted in a 50% price reduction during the peak hours of the California electricity crisis in 2000/2001.

Businesses and consumers are increasingly interested in energy solutions that will decrease costs. Recent research from Parks Associates revealed that home owners rank energy management and monitoring as two of the most desired features for connected home services.

The use of smart energy gateways, such as the Systech SysLINK, greatly increases the effectiveness of demand response programs. By automatically reducing power consumption of the most power-hungry devices, such as air conditioning and pool pumps, cost savings can be realized without user intervention.

The SysLINK™ smart energy gateway is a modular communication gateway/router, providing connectivity for a wide range of devices within a home or building including HVAC, pumps, thermostats, and power modules.

The key to effectively supporting energy management is modularity and flexibility. Unlike other solutions, the modular SysLINK M2M Gateway provides interface slots that may be optionally populated to extend the features and functionality of the gateway. Optional wireless interfaces include Wi-Fi, 2G/3G/4G LTE cellular, ZigBee, Z-Wave, and Bluetooth. Wired interface options include digital I/O ports, serial ports, and analog dialup ports. It is easy to optimize the SysLINK Gateway to meet the customer’s exact requirements. It also supports upgradability in the field.

The SysLINK gateway is uniquely able to communicate and bridge a wide variety of protocols and standards, while providing local intelligence to analyze, filter, and take action. The embedded Linux operating system provides the power and flexibility required to automatically adjust to individual hardware and software configurations. Additionally, custom software may be integrated to provide application-specific, value-added features to provide a truly unique solution.

Systech will be demonstrating complete end-to-end energy management solutions along with software partners Candi Controls and SmartenIt at Distributech in booth number 149.
