Researchers at the University of Purdue (one of the major universities in the Midwestern American state of Indiana) believe they have discovered an extract from an East Asian fruit that may have a major impact on those looking to lose weight. The scientific study was conducted on a group of overweight American women who were asked to take 400 mg Hydroxycitrac acid while making no other changes to their diets or exercise patterns.
The study lasted for approximately 12 weeks. At the end of the trial, those taking Hydroxycitrac acid were found to have lost an average of nearly 9 pounds more than those in the control group. Given that no other changes were asked of the participants these are significant findings.
How Does Garcinia Cambogia Work?
Researchers believe that the extract from Garcinia Cambogia, HCA, works by inhibiting the formation of fat in the body. HCA apparently disrupts a key component in the digestion of fat allowing the body to flush more fat and build up less of it in fat deposits. Put simply, HCA blocks much of fat that would otherwise remain in the body.
But researchers also noticed a significant side effect of this inhabitation which might at first seem counter-intuitive. Rather than leaving the participants in the study hungrier, the HCA actually decreased appetite—was in effect an appetite suppressant. So not only did the American women who took part in the study not accumulate fat at the same rate, they also felt less desire to snack between meals or to engage in other kinds of excessive eating.
The implication for this in the weight loss community has not gone unnoticed. Where many weight loss supplements create a weight loss cocktail with some ingredients devoted to fat burning (Raspberry ketones, for example) while others are devoted to appetite suppression (African mango, for example), the weight loss community may now have a natural weight loss solution that packs a double punch.
The result of these finding have been picked–up to a certain extent in the American media, but the real tipping point in the U.S. has come as a result of the Dr. OZ show—a respected American health and lifestyle show whose host is full M.D. Dr. Oz has called Garcinia Cambogia a “miracle drug” for weight loss and has devoted a whole segment of his show and website to it.
Given the obesity epidemic that is being felt State-side, it is no doubt that such weight loss solutions are much needed across the Pond. And now Garcinia Cambogia is available here in the United Kingdom as well for those who may have an interest in losing weight.
Even though participants in the scientific study in the U.S. study were not asked to make any lifestyle changes, health care experts here in the United Kingdom recommend combining Garcinia Cambogia with daily aerobic exercise and a healthy diet.
