We all know that airbags save lives, right? These safety features work with cars’ seat belts to provide additional crash protection to drivers and passengers. This additional protection has, no doubt, saved many lives and reduced the severity of countless injuries. But, despite those benefits, some airbags have been associated with serious and fatal injuries.
Automakers constantly work towards bettering their products. Over time, developments in airbag systems have lessened the likelihood that a car’s occupants will be harmed by these devices. But drivers and passengers may be able to further reduce the likelihood that an airbag will cause an injury by following these safety tips.
-Wear your seat belt. Airbags are not a substitute for a seat belt; they are a supplemental safety feature. Not to mention, Texas law requires you to wear a seat belt.
-Have young children ride in the back seat.
-Never put a child in a rear-facing car seat in the front seat of a car.
-Pay attention to your airbag indicator light. If the light comes on or blinks, it may indicate that there is a problem with the airbag or that the airbag feature has been disabled. Take your car to a mechanic who can diagnose the problem and fix it right way.
Despite the advancement in airbag technology, these safety features sometimes fail to perform as desired.
