With the Jetta reigning as Volkswagen’s best-selling vehicle, even small changes to the popular compact car can have an effect on the automaker’s bottom line, let alone high-impact modifications like the new high-tech options that the 2015 Jetta will bring. The refreshed 2015 Volkswagen Jetta debuted at the New York International Auto Show this week, boasting new driver-assistance systems, a more efficient TDI Clean Diesel engine and aerodynamic style tweaks on its exterior.
For the first time, the Jetta will be available with Blind Spot Detection, rear cross-traffic alert and frontal-collision warning, while driver visibility will improve thanks to optional Bi-Xenon headlights with the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) and LED daytime running lights. Volkswagen has also further refined its TDI Clean Diesel technology with a newly available 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that will be more powerful and more fuel efficient than the current 2.0-liter TDI powerplant. Slated to go on sale in the third quarter of this year, the 2015 Jetta TDI will produce 150 horsepower while returning a manufacturer-estimated 45 mpg on the highway, increases of 10 horsepower and five miles per gallon compared to its predecessor.
“The Volkswagen Jetta remains very popular because it provides advanced engineering and technology that you’d expect to find in a more expensive vehicle, and the refreshed 2015 model will offer even more value by taking that idea further,” said Jared Saunders, general manager of AutoFair Volkswagen of Nashua, a New Hampshire Volkswagen dealer. “In fact, the Jetta TDI has played a big role in the resurgence of diesel engines in the United States, and its outstanding mix of fuel efficiency and responsiveness will be even more potent for the 2015 model year.”
The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta lineup is expected to be more fuel efficient across the board as a result of its improved aerodynamics. A revamped radiator grille featuring three cross fins and an available closeable shutter is complemented by a similarly styled lower front fascia, while the air intakes and the rain gutters near the A-pillars have been optimized to reduce wind drag. In the back, Volkswagen has redesigned the 2015 Jetta’s taillights, trunk lid, logos and bumper.
