Large families no longer have to settle on a minivan when seeking a seven- or eight-passenger vehicle, and when it comes to choosing a more stylish and versatile crossover SUV, Parents magazine and Edmunds.com rank the 2014 Chevy Traverse as one of the best. The publications recently placed the Traverse on their 10 Best Family Cars for 2014 list, praising the model for its ability to seat up to eight passengers and fit plenty of cargo while providing a variety of convenience and safety features.
Offering 24.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind its third row, the Chevy Traverse presents parents with segment-leading storage space, and with the ability to fold seats, that number can grow to 70.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 116.3 cubic feet behind the first row. Parents magazine and Edmunds.com editors also noted the Traverse’s standard technology features like Bluetooth connectivity and a Rear Vision Camera, as well as its optional active-safety systems, including Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning. Should an accident occur, the 2014 Chevy Traverse has received a 5-Star Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the organization’s New Car Assessment Program.
“The Chevy Traverse checks off all the boxes for safe and convenient family transport, but its real appeal is that you still feel a sense of adventure when you’re behind the wheel with its impressive capability,” said Bo Hendrick, general sales manager of Central Maine Motors, a seller of new and used SUVs in Maine. “Whether you’re looking to tow a small boat to the lake in the summer or navigate snowy mountain roads in the winter, the Traverse is game, and it won’t drain your wallet at the gas pump in the process.”
Housing a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 281 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, the Chevy Traverse can tow up to 5,200 pounds, yet it is still capable of returning up to 24 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, an optional all-wheel-drive system can ensure proper traction through the worst of New England’s weather. Buyers continue to respond to the Traverse’s mix of versatility and value, with U.S. sales of the crossover SUV rising by 24 percent in May compared to the same month last year.
