Candlelight Vigil to be Held Sunday in Lakewood for the late David Nageotte

07/11/2014 (press release: tamlettieri) // Parma, Ohio, United States // Tammy Lettieri

Family and friends of the late David Nageotte will be gathering for a candlelight vigil this weekend. The gathering will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 1334 Cook Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio. The vigil is to not only honor the life of David, but also bring awareness to Ohio’s drunk driving laws that have set a suspected killer William Galvin free on bond until his arraignment, tentatively scheduled for July 14, 2014. David was laid to rest July 9, 2014 surrounded by his family.

David Nageotte, 36, was senselessly killed in the early morning hours of July 4, 2014 as he parked his car and was walking to his residence. William J. Galvin, who lives just a short distance from the victim’s residence is suspected of driving drunk and after striking David, did not stop, did not call 911 and offered no assistance whatsoever. He drove to his residence, parked his car for the night and went into his house, leaving David to lie in the middle of a residential street for a reported 40 minutes before 911 was called. Thanks to the diligence of the Lakewood Police Department, the damaged vehicle was tracked down and Galvin was arrested, but was released on bond less than 12 hours later to return to the comfort of his home.

David Nageotte first worked as a paramedic and was a member of Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital NICU transport unit and Life Flight team. He left there to work for the American Red Cross in Blood Services, which is where he worked when his life was needlessly taken by someone else’s indiscretion and poor judgment. David spent many years working as someone that saved lives only to have his taken too soon. A Facebook page has been established to offer support and awareness and help to provide a platform to share memories, photos and updates on the legal disposition of Galvin. A petition has also been started that will be forwarded to any legal officials in order to push for stronger drunk driving laws in Cuyahoga County and the State of Ohio, especially when an innocent person is killed.

The Justice for David Nageotte Facebook page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/justicefordavidnageotte. The petition can be found at https://www.causes.com/campaigns/80422-help-ensure-justice-is-served-for-david-nageotte. As David was an animal lover, especially cats, his family asked that any donations be made in memory of David Nageotte to the Northeast Ohio SPCA at http://www.northeastohiospca.org/.
