900lbs of Creative and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science announce a collaboration with Jamaal Charles, star running back of the Kansas City Chiefs, integrating him into the Sports Run Exhibit in the Lamar Hunt Family Sports Hall. Fans of all ages will now be able to experience racing one of the fastest running backs in the National Football League.
In 2012, 900lbs of Creative partnered with the Perot Museum of Nature and Science and the Science Museum of Minnesota to create the Sports Run Exhibit, an interactive exhibit anchoring an entire floor of the Perot Museum where patrons can learn and experience the science and technology behind sports. After a successful first year that saw over 300,000 attendees run the equivalent of Los Angeles to New York, the newest addition to this 55-foot long interactive exhibit is Kansas City Chief’s star running back and Texas native, Jamaal Charles.
Attendees are asked to choose an opponent, where they can select Jamaal Charles from a list of real-life athletes and various 3D animals, including a life-size Tyrannosaurus Rex. As they approach the starting line, the digital 5’11” Jamaal Charles comes into view, offering a challenge: try to beat one of the NFL’s top three rushers.
“It is clear this exhibit is the crowd favorite.” said Dan Kohl, Vice President for Creativity & Innovation at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. “There are always people lined up to run against our virtual athletes…even classroom groups are cheering as their teachers take their turn at competing.”
Filming Jamaal Charles required a challenging 12 HD camera setup, 72 feet of green screen and a diverse crew of 22 technicians, electricians and creatives. The exhibit itself uses 6 blended projectors, over 5 million pixels, ensuring a real-world racing experience. Over the course of one day at the exhibit, attendees will travel over 36,000 feet, a distance greater than climbing Mt. Everest.
