According to J.D. Power, overall sales satisfaction has increased at auto dealerships across the country during the past year, but MINI still has the most satisfied customers of any mainstream brand. For the fifth straight year, MINI led all mass-market brands in the auto researcher’s U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) Study after feedback was retrieved from 29,805 purchasers or lessees of new vehicles in April and May of 2014.
Examining each dealership that a customer visited, the 2014 J.D. Power SSI Study evaluated auto brands regardless of whether the final sale was made with them. The weight given to the satisfaction of actual buyers included working out the deal (17 percent), salesperson (13 percent), delivery process (11 percent) and facility (10 percent), while the criteria for rejecter satisfaction were salesperson (21 percent), experience negotiating (8 percent), fairness of price (8 percent), facility (7 percent) and variety of inventory (7 percent).
“With vehicle quality improving so much across the industry in recent years, auto brands need to go the extra mile to differentiate themselves, but thankfully for MINI, it has always done things differently, even when it comes to customer service,” said Gary King, general manager of MINI of Bedford, a New Hampshire MINI dealer. “Our customers feel like they’re talking with a fellow MINI enthusiast instead of a salesperson when they’re greeted by our Motoring Advisors, and that bond naturally leads to a satisfying sales experience.”
After determining buyer and rejecter satisfaction for its 2014 SSI Study, J.D. Power calculated a satisfaction score for each auto brand based on a 1,000-point scale. Earning 727 points this year, MINI’s leading score rose by 9 points compared to 2013. The brand hopes to attract even more satisfied customers into its dealerships next year following the January launch of the all-new MINI Hardtop 4 door.
