The 1800-CAR-WRECK sponsored team will play in the 2015 Elite Basketball Championship Series tournament on Feb. 21-22 in Oklahoma City.
Dallas, Texas – The Dallas based personal injury law firm of Eberstein & Witherite has announced dates for the upcoming 2015 Elite Basketball Championship Series tournament. The youth basketball team sponsored by the firm, the EW Elite, will play in the highly anticipated event, which is set to begin its first series on February 21st in Oklahoma City.
The Elite Basketball Championship Series
The Elite Basketball Championship Series is a league that offers national level competition and scout exposure for middle school and junior high school level players. The league has three divisions in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Its stated mission is “to improve junior high basketball by providing a challenging and organized circuit series for elite boys’ travel clubs in grades 5th– 8th grade.”
For the upcoming tournament, there will be three sessions for players in grades 6-8 to compete in. Following the first session on Feb. 21st and 22nd, the second session will take place March 28-29th in Little Rock Arkansas. The third will be the National Championships held in Dallas, Texas April 18-19th.
Support for Youth Sports
According to data from the Communities Foundation of Texas, nearly half of Dallas area middle school students fall under the category of being “at-risk” for low academic achievement, crime involvement, and substance and alcohol abuse. This statistics applies to an estimated 75,000 students. Strides are currently being made by such organizations and community advocates to improve the educational commitment of students during middle school and earlier stages for increased graduation and retention rates in Dallas communities.
As stated by legal community advocate Brian Eberstein, who co-founded the Eberstein & Witherite law firm, “particularly in areas deemed high risk for academic difficulties and other major issues that impact the overall development and well being of middle school students, activities like participation in sports can help keep them focused on things important for their future.”
“Providing sponsorship for youth sports is just one of the ways we express our long-term commitment to the communities we serve,” says Eberstein.
The EW Elite
The EW Elite is comprised of middle school students from the south Dallas area. Coached by Rodney Johnson and Royce Johnson, the team has been recognized for their success in multiple tournaments, for which they have been awarded several trophies. The Eberstein & Witherite firm provides sponsorship for the team in the form of uniforms, meals, and equipment. Members of the firm have expressed that their involvement with the team is one of the most rewarding initiatives they have chosen to participate in.
Says Eberstein, “We have been so proud of the boys, as well as the coaches and parents in staying committed to the success of this impressionable group, and recognize the high value of such an investment.”
