It may be a new year for Mercedes-Benz, but the luxury automaker continues to attract its highest U.S. sales in history, netting its best-ever January sales last month after reporting record annual sales in 2014. Moving 24,619 units in January, Mercedes-Benz surpassed its sales total from the same month last year by 9 percent.
The recently redesigned Mercedes-Benz C-Class was the brand’s volume leader last month, totaling 6,236 units to post a 9 percent increase of its own. Meanwhile, the flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class experienced the greatest sales growth of any car in the lineup, rising 22 percent compared to January 2014. Among SUVs, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class remained the most popular, selling 3,144 units for an 11 percent boost year-over-year. Following in second place with a tally of 2,121 units was the larger Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, which saw its sales rise by an impressive 38 percent.
“Mercedes-Benz continues to outfit longtime favorites like the C-Class and S-Class with breathtaking styling and the latest technology, and at the same time, it has introduced more affordable options like the compact CLA-Class and GLA-Class, which appeal to younger buyers while sporting many of the same features,” said James Buckley, general manager of Smith Motor Sales, a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Haverhill, Mass. “That’s an excellent recipe for record sales, and it looks like the brand has another impressive run ahead of it in 2015.”
Completely redesigned for the 2015 model year, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was recently named Car of the Year in the Cars.com Best of 2015 awards. The auto-research site not only praised the 2015 model’s sculpted styling pulled from the S-Class and CLA-Class, but it also noted that suspension alterations and a weight loss of roughly 200 pounds allow the new generation to handle, brake and ride better than any of its predecessors. To emerge victorious in the Cars.com Best of 2015 awards, the 2015 C-Class had to top five other nominees that were either all-new or fully redesigned for the 2015 model year, including the BMW M4, Dodge Challenger, Honda Fit, Subaru Outback and Volkswagen Golf.
