Although Klang Valley may be home to Malaysia’s largest startup site, not all startups with a great idea or solution are necessarily born out of it.

At MYHackathon 2020 organized by Cradle Fund, we have seen proof of this. In short, it is an initiative under the MYHackathon initiative National Economic Recovery Plan (GENERATOR) with the aim of addressing national challenges in the service of citizens.

Below that, startups will present their ideas and the winning solutions will help improve the efficiency of our government services.

Here we highlight the 5 winners from outside the Klang Valley, showing that they have everything they need to move big weapons.

Digitization of company secretarial services

Corporate governance can be a headache; ask any business owner. Not understanding how to do it properly can lead to inefficiency, waste of resources, or problems with the authorities.

To do this, Penang headquarters Boss Boleh he thinks the company secretary could be a solution. But choosing the right one is another headache.

“95% of business secretaries are not transparent about prices, [with] hidden costs when you receive invoices, [and] unforeseen charges at the end of the year, ”said co-founder Lee Jung Ren.

Thus, the team drew on their experience in this space to find a solution. They have created a database of documents and collaborated with trusted digital providers for digital signatures and e-Know Your Customer (eKYC) technology to facilitate digital business processes.

Within a year of launch, it has gained more than 150 users and is poised to grow further with MYHackathon.

There, the group learned how to present effectively, received guidance on how to work with government agencies, and learned first-hand how they contributed to the Malaysian government’s digitalization efforts.

Going forward, they plan to take on artificial intelligence (AI) matching functions on the cloud platform for business-to-business (B2B2C) consumers.

Improving vocational training

eLancar Kota Kinabalu is a data analysis platform that aims to help the government train the nation directly through personalized training and improving the internal processes of its agencies.

In our interview, Director Charlie Teh highlighted an interesting point. As we grow older, we are taught that good education is important for stable employment and the improvement of the national economy.

However, he noted that there is a growing gap in vocational training. The pandemic has also worsened the expectations of many people, and the eLancar solution has become more crucial.

The platform has now provided 10,000 hours of training to grow the career as well as personalized careers for its users.

In addition, 30 million Malaysians have been able to attend courses at one of the top 1% of free universities, including Harvard, Stanford, Oxford and others, free of charge, Charlie added.

These milestones were achieved with the financial support of MYHackathon through a conditional grant from the Cradle Fund, which helped start the business.

After that, eLancar will use the industry’s mentoring and network exposure from the program to continue to disseminate its solutions to the public, driving Malaysia into the future of high revenue.

Progress in road maintenance in Malaysia

There is a road network that is difficult to maintain in the open ground of Sarawake, and even less so when it is damaged.

Usually the process is still manual, the authorities drive it slowly and take notes of the damage and their location.

Unable to sit idly by about the struggles of his people, Dr. Chai Kok Chin and his team NEUON AI, an AI Solutions Companyy, created RoadPlus.

With this, they have taught AI how to automatically detect and classify road damage. Additionally, RoadPlus can also work offline, which means that offline areas aren’t a problem either.

All collected data is stored in the cloud so that the necessary parties can easily share and access it. Basically, RoadPlus is a cost-effective solution that is able to speed up processes and can detect, track and fix potholes within 24 hours.

At MYHackathon, he connected with the appropriate NEUON AI agencies, and became an official in RoadPlus Sarawak’s Department of Public Works (JKR). He also received funding for his project’s capital expenditures (CapEx) and operating expenses (OpEx).

Looking to the future of RoadPlus, Dr. Chai aims to serve the rest of Sarawak’s road network and then expand it nationwide. More than that, his team is also working to provide RoadPlus with more road asset management services.

Provide learning opportunities for communities with disabilities

That children with hearing impairments did not have the same access to proper Islamic education as their peers did, Ruzimi Mohamed knew he had to do something.

So he created it Special and created iskanDAR, a series of interactive books and applications based on basic Islamic learning. These tools mean that people with disabilities can learn with the help of augmented reality (AR).

The solution created by Johor today has downloaded 62 users within 3 months of launching the app, and its user base includes students from Malaysia, Germany, Kuwait, India and Iraq.

But achieving this milestone would have been much more difficult without the support of the MYHackathon, where the Cradle Fund provided funding to enable Ozel to hire programmers, animators, equipment, and so on.

With the current progress, Ozel plans to continue to create educational content on Islamic issues and improve existing modules.

In the long run, Ruzimik plans to create an international virtual school for the hearing-impaired community to provide a global education accessible to all.

Make technical learning fun and interactive

Penang-en ThinkersLab, aims to teach Science, Technology and Innovation (ITS) through interactive learning.

This is important for Dr. Mohammad Khairul, who noted that the teaching methods available for the above subjects are usually too difficult to learn. Workshops or additional classes are also required for proper understanding.

But what if an app fixes this problem? Introducing Mat Metro, which aims to do this in a virtual way, using AR and virtual reality (VR).

Mat Metro allows users to study in the form of workshops without having to pay extra, and offers interactive learning to the younger generation interested in gadgets.

MYHackathon’s role in this project was to help ThinkersLab with its brand to gain collaboration with other organizations and gain credibility in providing tutors and funding.

Once the project is complete, ThinkersLab is working on an advanced solution using more sophisticated tools at its own expense.

One such example is the development of Mat Metro to make Oculus Quest compatible with a VR headset. In addition, Dr. Mohammad wants to partner with more organizations to encourage the adoption of the app.

Continuous creation of resilient startups

With the completion of MYHackathon 2020, the Cradle Fund is ready to host MYHackathon 2022.

The goals remain the same: to build and channel high-potential startups into the national ecosystem, to strengthen public partnerships, and to contribute to the overall national ITS agenda.

Ultimately, it has been given an important role in restoring the economic resilience of startups so that they can contribute to the development of Malaysia.

In a way, the top 5 startups have proven that despite the fact that their startup ecosystems are so developed in their states, they can continue to be resilient and meet the challenge with the help of the Cradle Fund.

Now here’s to the MYHackathon 2022 from Klang Valley hoping to see even more startup winners.
