The family of the former president and current parliamentary speaker said doctors were “very happy” to be saved after undergoing surgery to save his life.
Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed is conscious and is deprived of life support after several surgeries, his family said, as police announced two arrests in connection with the blast seriously injured hura.
The 53-year-old leader of the Democratic Party of the Maldives government and the current speaker of parliament were taken to hospital when a bomb exploded as he tried to get into his car after his family left their home in the Male capital on Thursday evening.
No responsibility has been claimed, but police said on Saturday that two people had been arrested in connection with the blast as a treat “terror” attack.

“I’m fine,” Nasheed said after he came out of life on Saturday, according to a tweet from his sister, Nashida Sattar. His brother Ibrahim Nashide said doctors are “very happy” with Nasheed’s recovery.

On Friday, doctors said Nasheed had to undergo 16 hours of surgery to remove the shrapnel and treat life-threatening wounds to his head, chest and abdomen.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih described the incident as an “attack on democracy and the economy in the Maldives” and assured of a “rapid and thorough investigation”.
Nasheed, who was the first democratically elected president of the Maldives in 2008, has been a strong critic of strong groups in the Sunni Muslim archipelago, and has helped investigate allegations of corruption against opposition leaders.
In 2007, a blast blast hit foreign tourists and injured 12 people.
