Jaron Ennis vs Sergey Lipinets: Fight announcement, card, start time, how to watch, TV channel

With the top end of the loaded welterweight part somewhat stalled, Jaron Ennis wants to put in a bit of a 147-pound life and right now says it’s the title. Ennis will take the biggest step of his career on Saturday night when he faces tough veteran Sergey Lipinets at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut (21:00 ET, Showtime).

Ennis (26-0, 24 KOs) is struggling with Chris van Heerden in December. Ennis Van Heerden was doing an easy job, but a collision between the heads at the end of the first round caused a vicious operation on van Heerden’s forehead, causing the doctor to stop and not compete.

Prior to that fight, Ennis stopped 16 opponents in a row in a division that didn’t establish itself as one of the big names in boxing as an elite solution.

In the Lipinets (16-1, 12 KOs), Ennis faces the toughest test of his career. Lipins has only lost once in his career, with his 2018 decision in defeat against Mikey Garcia. Lipinets lost the IBF super lightweight championship in that fight, but Garcia came out as a more respected fighter than he came, perhaps after being forced to do the toughest fight of his career so far.

Lipinets has gone 3-0-1 since the loss of Garcia, who recently scored a draw against Custio Clayton, a late substitute. Clayton’s fight reminded Lipinet that he has limits as a fighter and that he is a step below the very strong elite level of the welterweight. However, he is a skilled fighter, tending to force fighters into uncomfortable situations and occasional unexpected wars.

In this card, IBF flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas is also back. Filipino will take on Javier Rodriguez in the 12-round title defense to kick off the TV portion of the card on Saturday. Ancajas has dominated since winning the title in 2016 over seven wins and a draw in the last four years. Rodriguez is not at ease with a 22-1 result and 16 playoffs, but it will be his first time fighting outside of Mexico and for the U.S. debut.
